Oil Creek State Park consists of 7,075 acres. The park adjoins Drake Well Museum and the city of Titusville at its northern end. Remains of the oil boom days still exist in the park as well as clean trout waters, abundant hemlock and broadleaf forests, and a wide variety of plant and animal life. The park consists of deep hollows, steep hills, wetlands, and a beautiful meandering creek.

Pithole

Within 6 miles of Oil Creek Valley is Pithole. America’s largest oil boom town. Oil was discovered in Pithole in January 1864. By September 1865, Pithole had grown into a city of 15,000. After the oil ran dry, people left in search of other prosperity. By 1867 Pithole was deserted. Today, Pithole is once again a rolling meadow of grasses and wildflowers. A visitors center and museum with several exhibits is also located at this spot.
